The weather in the city has been unbelievably hot and humid and though I am a strong believer of outdoor play for children in this era of smart phones, flat screens, tabs & fancy gadgets, there are some interesting indoor play areas & exciting outdoor activity venues which could come in use in this crazy heat.

1. Millk – Lower Parel

While I relaxed at the spa & salon at Millk, Sara – my 4 year old, enjoyed the state of-the-art playarea which is done up very tastefully. It also works well for playdates and parties; and best of all it has WiFi facility so you can also have a work meeting if you are struggling to find a babysitter!

2. Funkey Monkey – Andheri West & Lower Parel

While Sara and my friend’s son Jash were immersed in fun at this 3,000 sq. ft. indoor playcenter, my friend Krishna and I had some fun time – gossiping. It is also a place where moms can enjoy some ‘Me’ time or catch up on a book.

Running, Jumping, Climbing, Crawling, Sliding… Play is what kids do best at this ‘Free Play’ concept venue which allows kids to explore, experience and develop.

They have a fully equipped café area over looking the play zones, free WiFi, valet parking & kid friendly bathrooms. Don’t forget to carry socks for the kids and yourself at most of the mentioned indoor play-areas.

3. Aquamagica – Mumbai to Pune Express Highway

I consider myself lucky to be invited to the opening of this awesome waterpark. The Pirate Bay Slides and inner-tube slides with gentle speeds and slopes into shallower pools are super fun for the kids.

Mini slides, water toys and playful characters all add up to a wet world of wonder for the younger ones.

They have convenient food booths &picnic meals are available too. Swim diapers can be bought. Carry appropriate swimwear though. Lockers are available. Free shuttle service is provided for train commuters from Khopoli Station too.

4. Snowworld – Kurla West

It was fun to witness snow, my very first-time and that too in Mumbai. Snow World is Mumbai’s first ever snow-theme park, designed to international standards. Snow World’s temperature is maintained at -10˚C and is located at Phoenix Market City Mall.

5. Giggles – Bandra West

Run by my friend-Keyuri, Giggles is a new 2,000 sq. ft. soft play area and activity centre located in the heart of the city, on the bustling Hill Road.

It offers a safe, soft environment to allow kids to actively play and develop new motor skills such as learning to climb, balance, build blocks, and hone social skills by playing with other kids.

This soft play area is ideal for kids of our city, which sees a dearth of parks and other public spaces where typically kids can let loose.

6. Five Gardens – Dadar East

Our family favorite!! Enjoy a leisurely stroll, eat a yummy chaat or take a horse ride at this public park in the evening. The BMC has done a lot to revamp at the Five Gardens in Matunga and has put up long interconnected play equipment, which has 13 slides.

You could also visit the Shivaji park beach play area close by.

7. Chowpatty & Juhu beach – Girgaum & Juhu

Chowpatty – The most visited tourist beach in Mumbai which is popular for its various eateries & street food. Camel and horse rides are available plus the merry-go-rounds, ferry wheels on the beach are fun for the children.

Recently renovated Taraporewala Aquarium could also be explored closeby, at Marine Drive but beware of long queues during weekends. The sprawling Juhu beach is another option.

Don’t forget to carry sand play tool kits along & enjoy various street food delicacies plus flavoured ice lollies.  Sara loves Juhu Beach for plane-spotting as it is right underneath a departure flight path for the Mumbai Airport. You can also visit the beautiful ISKCON temple nearby.

8. Butterfly park – Thane West

OvalekarWadi Butterfly Garden is a home for 132 species of butterflies, which can be seen throughout the year. It is an open air butterfly garden located in Thane(W). You can see butterflies in their natural surroundings.  This garden is open to public on Sundays only. Timings are from 8am-12 noon.

9. Rambo Circus – Versova

Rambo Circus is the Biggest Circus in India. They are always ahead in using innovative techniques which makes them the best in the industry. Enjoy thrilling and breath-taking circus acts at their air-conditioned venue. Next venue area is Mulund.

10. Happy Planet – Kurla

A 6500sq.ft air-conditioned amusement centre for children in Mumbai. They offer fun, adventure, entertainment all at a single location in Phoenix MarketCity Kurla. Their play-land boasts of inflatables, giant soft plays, toddler zones, bumper boats, toy trains, carousels, redemption machines and much more.
