As parents, there comes a time when we either need to leave the children at home while we fulfil some obligation, or more likely, there comes a time when you will just have to get out away from the children for a night out on your own.
It is also important to have a regular babysitter that you can call on if you have an emergency and need to leave the kids at home.
If you have never hired a babysitter before you might be overwhelmed with finding one that you feel comfortable with and then with figuring out how much to pay them. There are several ways you can find a babysitter.
Probably the easiest is by word of mouth. Ask your friends, family and neighbors that have kids which babysitters they use and what they think of them. You can also ask at your paediatrician’s office if they know of anyone. Make sure you check the person out.
If you have never used this sitter before invite them over and interview them. There are also agencies you can go through but these are usually very expensive. You may also be able to find a parent that is willing to swap babysitting time with you.
Once you find a babysitter you need to decide you much you are going to pay them. This will depend on a lot of factors including what the going rate is in your area, how many kids they will be babysitting and what you expect them to do while they are babysitting.
The video below explains in detail how to come up with a dollar amount to pay your babysitter.
