There are many other movies and films you and your family will enjoy, but hopefully this short list will help you find some movies worth watching.

The Lion King is the best of all in many hearts. “Hakuna metata” is Swahili for “everything will be fine,” a phrase that permeates this wonderful, classic movie for kids that adults enjoy too.

The Lion King is a beautifully animated film with an underlying lesson of how our choices change our lives and the inevitability of events which often bring us full circle.

Not everyone agrees that this lesson was intended, but everyone knows somehow that there is a moral to the story. Your kids might miss it altogether, but that’s okay. It’s still a wonderful story.

And, of course, the famous “Wizard of Oz.” Until recently, most kids had the chance to watch it on television, but no more. It’s definitely worth ferreting out as one of the most imaginative, enduring and heart warming stories for kids.

As an adventure, it dramatizes both friend and foe, so it may be a little scary for the youngest crowd, but since it turns out fine it shouldn’t cause any real problems.

Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory has been popular since its making in 1971. It was created from the book “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

The story is a fantasy from the beginning and a delicious one it is. The winning ticket to a tour of the chocolate factory turns out to be more than just a tour. Be sure to have some chocolate handy to snack on, because you’ll need it!

Don’t let a new version sway you from showing The Adventures of Robin Hood to your kids. This one was made in 1935 and it’s where Robin Hood started his fame. It showcases some awesome talent. Errol Flynn stars in it, so you know what you’re looking for. A true hero is a true hero and he plays the part well.

You can’t get by with having your kids watch E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. It’s a charming tale that makes extra-terrestials seem almost real even to adults, so don’t be surprised if your kids’ imaginations take them to worlds unknown after seeing this. It’s a story that might even haunt your imagination.

One of Disney’s most popular films was and still is, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. It was the first full length animated film done in color and it’s success was resounding.

Created from a fairy tale that many of us heard or read as children, the movie brings colorful life to the characters and follows the story line almost faithfully.

If your kids are a little older, The Sound of Music will catch their attentions and imaginations. It came from the true story and best selling book, “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers.”

Starting in Salzburg, Austria, the family, including the children’s governess, has to run for their lives during the Nazi invasion. The flight itself is amusing and amazing and may bring a few tears.
